WITH LOVE AND GRATITUDE - APOTHECARY CHOCOLATES SAYS FAREWELL
After eight truly adventuresome years, it is with a heavy heart that I share the closing of Apothecary Chocolates.
I was already struggling with sourcing issues related to ingredients. Still, after August 1st, tariffs went into effect, making it impossible to make a reasonably priced chocolate bar. My supplier's price skyrocketed 65%. I knew it would be unfair and unreasonable to put that on wholesalers and retailers.
Eight years ago, after a meeting with Angela and Ellen from St. Lawrence Chocolates, I ventured into a market I knew nothing about. They started me off with the knowledge to create a 5-bar Apothecary collection, which grew into over 40 different flavors and a massive range of truffles sold in more than 70 stores across the United States. Tapping into the talents of my production managers, H3 Designs and Forevermore Studios, they brought together a vision of a brand that was both beautiful and artistic.
As Maliah joined the kitchen, we were able to increase production and reach a bigger marketplace. Over the past eight years, I have had assistants, Leah and Jennifer, who followed up with wholesalers, brought me onto wholesale platforms, and kept us extremely organized.
Danielle was the latest chocolatier to bring her expertise to the kitchen, making room in the schedule for Maliah and Angela to create some of the most delicious, high-end, and delicate confections we have ever tasted.
I will always appreciate the early days when our local stores said an immediate yes to wholesaling the chocolates. They took a chance on me, and together we formed friendships.
While creating Apothecary Chocolates, I have made many mistakes. But each one led me to understand myself and inspire grace in other parts of my life.
And to the wonderful customers who have "loved us up", thank you for paying the price for good quality, locally made chocolate handcrafted by women who work hard and are creative artisans.
With love,
Shelby
